I know that we are a little biased here at Stitched With Love, but we really do believe that getting someone a simple cross stitch gift is perfect for Christmas, Birthdays or any other special occasion. We are keen to create patterns that not only experienced stitched can complete but also complete novices.
Cross Stitch Kits provide everything that someone would need in order to begin on their journey to becoming a cross stitcher. Whether you have done a cross stitch kit before or not a pattern similar to our yellow minions kit, purple minions kit or green aliens kit will be perfect as a little stocking filler. (shameless plug over, I promise).
The benefits of becoming a cross stitcher
At stitched with love we believe that a hobby such as cross stitching is essential to having a well balanced and happy life. Here are just a few reasons why we think this:
Cross Stitching encourages creativity: even if you stick to a pattern to begin with, you are being extremely creative and making something unique to you as no two people do it in exactly the same way.
Cross Stitching boosts self-expression: There is such a wide range of patterns available for you to choose from that you can not help but express yourself in your work
Cross Stitching encourages relaxation: Many people believe that Cross Stitch must be tiring and strenuous but for those of us out there who are avid stitches you will know how calming and relaxing it can be.
Cross Stitching encourages a “calming peace of mind”: It is very hard to explain this, but when cross stitching, like knitting or crocheting, you get into a zone that is incredibly calming.
Cross Stitching helps you to build up stamina and confidence. Cross Stitching (and my passion for it) has helped me through some extremely stressful times over the last few years. It is a world I can escape into and know that at the end of a pattern I have really achieved something, that was 100% me!
It really does become a hobby to look forward to, follow any cross stitch forum or facebook group and you will be able to clearly see the passion and love the stitchers have for this hobby.
I believe that doctors have noted after just an hour of leisurely cross stitching, you should be feeling more peaceful and relaxed. Why is this?
Working at your own speed and comfort level reduces stress.
It is 100% non-competitive which is soothing to the cross stitcher.
Having the freedom to be creative is a tremendous booster to your general well-being.
Self-expression makes you feel more positive about yourself.
Completing a project on your own creates self-confidence, self-esteem, self-respect and self-worth.
Your cross stitch hobby can be relaxing and to ensure it remains that way we have a few extra tips to ensure you don't get stressed while tackling a more difficult pattern:
Count your stitches once and "Go."
Don't count higher than 10 at a time (or you are more likely to lose your place)
Make a copy of your pattern so that you can make it as you need to (be as messy as you want, highlight, cross out, anything you find easiest - as you have a backup in the original).... don't copy it by hand though a photocopy will do fine.
Concentrate on one colours at any one time.
Don't feel you need to stick to a pattern if you want to add your own flair, do it!
Now Go Cross Stitch! (and don't forget to share your completed pieces with us on Facebook)
